PET PORTRAITS IN CHARACTER by Tim Bowers

PET PORTRAITS FACEBOOK BANNER.png

Animals have always been a favorite subject in my artwork. My first painting, created when I was ten or eleven years old, was a portrait of a dog. I grew up around a lot of animals, including my grandparents’ ponies, chickens, dogs, cats, a squirrel monkey and an African grey parrot.

I’ve enjoyed a thirty-year career of creating animal characters with personalities in over fifty children’s books. Now, I am offering to create a custom portrait of your pet as a unique character, combining your pet’s likeness with an imaginative background, setting, props and costume. Your beloved pet can be cast as a variety of characters, including historical, storybook, sports, royalty and more.

Backroads, Country Toads!

Devin Scillian writes another GREAT STORY! Backroads, Country Toads will hit the shelves in July, 2019.

When country toads, Hank and Buckeroo, hear some folks talking about going "fly-fishing," they know they have to tag along. What could be better than fishing for flies?! So they stow away in a picnic basket and prepare for the feast of their lives. But what will happen when they realize fly-fishing isn't exactly what they expected?

One final note from this book. All artwork was created digitally. A first for me! I have been a 100% traditional medium kind of guy, until now. The computer has become another tool for my story telling. More to come!

Sorry, Grown-Ups!

…You can’t go to school but you can pick up this great children’s book and see what happens when they try.

This fun role-reversal picture book will help reluctant students see the appeal of school!
It's just another school morning...until Mom, Dad, Grandma, and even Bow-wow the dog BEG the kids to let them come to school, too! Dad can tie his own shoes--why can't he come? Mom is all ready with her brand-new backpack--she's allowed, right? No! Only kids and teachers!

Sorry, Grow-Ups will be available in July, 2019. Just in time for “back-to-SCHOOL”.

Membership into the MPSGS

In February, I was invited to become a member of the Miniature Painters, Sculptors and Gravers Society of Washington, D.C. The MPSGS was founded in 1931 and is the oldest Miniature art Society in the U.S. It is the second oldest in the world next to the Royal Society of Miniature Painters, Sculptors and Gravers in London, England. The object of the society is “to encourage and stimulate public interest in art in miniature”.

I have been entering miniature paintings for the annual exhibition for the last several years and have several awards from that show. I am honored to be included in the membership with other quality miniature painters.

Here are three miniature paintings that were included in the 2018 MPSGS show:

A NEW look for the Studio Blog...

So, we moved to another town. That means another studio and a fresh start. I’m using this time to refresh, renew and re-create who I am as an artist. I’ve been blessed with a career of great connections and projects in the picture book circle. I’ve dipped my toes in the “licensed art” pool for some time, now. I’ve carved out a little time for miniature painting. It’s all good. Some of my other interests have been begging for more time and a chance to play a bigger part in the mix. There comes a time when you reflect on the past, embrace the creative spirit and dive deep into a new direction. I’ll try to post more, update more and become more visible on this new site. That’s the plan. I hope you will check in to see what’s new.
